Examination Policy and Procedures

Dates for examination registration

Registration forms must be returned to the IMM GSM by 1 March 2010 for 1st semester and 2 August 2010 for 2nd semester.

This form must be completed, even if you have already paid your examination fees, or had your fees transferred from the last examination session. We need to know what modules and where you will be writing your examinations.

NOTE: A late registration fee will be payable on all forms received after the closing dates, even if payment has been timeously received.

THE ONUS IS ON THE LEARNER TO ENSURE TIMEOUS REGISTRATION! Please refer to all the fees and closing dates on the website.

Language policy of the IMM GSM

Examination papers are available in English only. You are requested to answer examinations in this medium.

Examination timetable

An examination timetable is availble on the website and in the prospectus. Please ensure that the modules which you have chosen fit within the constraints of the timetable. (The timetable should assist you in drawing up your study programme for the semester.)

Past examination papers

Past examination question papers, including the marking memorandums, are available from the IMM GSM offices. By collecting the past examination question papers from one of these offices you can spend more time on these papers.

Complete the order form should you require past papers to be posted to you. Return this form to the IMM GSM with the necessary monies. (DO NOT MAIL CASH). Please allow two to three weeks for delivery. If you have not received these within 21 days, please contact the IMM GSM.

Good Answer Booklets

In addition to the past examination papers the IMM GSM offers you Good Answer Booklets for the following modules: Principles of Marketing, Business Communication, Business Management, Business Law, Micro Economics and Macro Economics. These answers are written by students under examination conditions and are available at the IMM GSM offices. You can either collect these from the IMM GSM offices or complete the order form, should you require them to be mailed to you.

Open-book examinations

The IMM GSM has open-book examinations: Marketing Strategy (4 hours), Media Strategy (3 hours) and Marketing Research Application. Learners are permitted to refer to any support material during the examinations.

Cancellation of examinations

Examinations must be cancelled in writing at least 6 weeks prior to the start of each examination session. NO TELEPHONIC CANCELLATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

The monies paid for cancelled examinations (minus an administration fee and assignment marking fee) will be credited to your IMM GSM student account.

The credit on your account will be used to offset the cost of your next three exam sessions. If you have submitted an assignment, a marking fee per modules cancelled, will be debited to your IMM GSM account.

Examination confirmation

A letter confirming your examination registration and modules to be written, will reach you three (3) weeks prior to the start of the exams. If your confirmation letter has not reached you by this date, contact the IMM GSM office or regional offices to confirm your examination registration.

It is compulsory to produce your examination confirmation letter at the exam venue.

This letter will also give you the address of your examination venue. Familiarise yourself with the location of your venue before the commencement of the examinations.

Identification at the examination venue

You must take your ID Book / Passport and your IMM GSM student number with you to the examination venue for identification purposes. Please note that a student card alone is not sufficient identification. Failure to produce positive identification at the examination venue could result in your scripts not being marked.

Release of results

The released dates for the examinations are available on the website and in the prospectus. Your examination results will be posted to you and will also be available at the IMM GSM office and regional offices and your Student Support Centres. To facilitate the process further, students may view their results on the Internet at www.imm.co.za

Students may also phone 083 123 9911 on the day on which the results are released in order to access their results.

No show at examination venue

Students who fail to arrive at the examination venue will not be permitted to have their fees credited for the next examination session. Students who have failed to attend an examination due to medical reasons, must submit an original or certified copy of the medical documentation to the IMM GSM office or regional offices within two weeks of the examination date.

Supplementary examinations

Because the IMM GSM has two formal examination sessions per year (May and October), supplementary examinations are not offered.

Note: Once marked, examination scripts are moderated to ensure accuracy, fairness and consistency of marking. Examination results, once published, are FINAL.
